Disaster Zone Podcast: The Soup Ladies Helping in Disasters

Another great example of how volunteers can provide support.

Typically we hear about how the “professionals” respond to disasters. However, there are many different types of volunteer groups who also support emergency management and first responders. In one of my more recent podcasts we learned about amateur radio teams, which are active across the spectrum of organizations responding to disasters.

In this podcast there is a great example of how someone with a need found someone willing to fill that need. Check out “The Soup Ladies Helping in Disasters.”

They expanded from a simple “one off” helping hand to a much more organized effort that is now multi-state.

The podcast’s description is below:

“Volunteer organizations who support disasters come in many different types and sizes. One such organization is The Soup Ladies who feed first responders when they are deployed on missions. These can be search and rescue missions, evidence processing of crime scenes or any other disaster response where first responders are present. The guest for this podcast is Ginger Passarelli, the Executive Director for The Soup Ladies. In the podcast we discover how this volunteer passion evolved and what types of services they provide. This is a great example of one person with a vision who has now been joined by others in making a difference in the lives of fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services and others.”
