It All Started With Testing and Still, It Is Testing That Is an Issue
We need a multi-pronged attack at COVID-19.
Perhaps you recall the first big glitch in the United States response to the coronavirus — it was test kits. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) messed that one up. Now, close to two years later, we are still in a test kit shortage.
I think it is a pretty simple answer as to why. We took our eye off the ball and fumbled testing while the focus was all on vaccines and vaccinations. It is clear that one solution is not going to get us where we want to be on the virus.
I know we have some very smart people working the issue for us in the federal government. We should expect better of them. As for the 500 million test kits that will be coming, “promise less and deliver more.” The contract for producing the kits has not yet been signed as of this writing, and really we’ll be lucky to see a surge in test kits sometime in January, but I would not hold your breath waiting for that to happen.
