Sounds vicious, doesn’t it? War is vicious. Powell was an infantryman in Vietnam. To the best of my knowledge, the mission of the infantry has not changed since I was an infantryman. What Powell said back then is in line with the mission of the infantry.
The mission of the infantry is “Close with, kill, capture and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver.”
