Dead Trees Reveal Possible Mega Earthquake(s) in NW

For now, it is a “maybe.”

Science is always working to find out more about what happened in the past to predict what might happen in the future. In that vein, see this story: “Dead trees uncover truth of massive earthquake that current models don’t plan for.”

Perhaps we’ll never know if the hypothesis put forward is correct or not. If it is correct and one earthquake on a major fault system could set off other earthquake faults, that will make the disaster response move from being a “disaster” to being a “catastrophe.”

You can’t take studies like the one described “to the bank,” but it should give everyone in the disaster business pause to think about what the worst case event might really be.
