FEMA Needs More Disaster Funding!

It is that time of year again ...

We are nearing the end of the federal fiscal year and the number and size of disasters is exceeding the funding that has been allocated to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help states and local jurisdictions with their disaster response and recovery needs.

See this story: “Biden administration to ask Congress for an additional $4 billion for FEMA’s disaster fund.”

Note that this $4 billion is on top of the $12 billion asked for only a few weeks ago. Disasters can stack up this time of year as hurricanes roll in and wildfire season kicks into high gear.

This disaster funding can get wrapped up and included in other federal funding requests that can make the entire package not only bigger, but also controversial, e.g., more funding for Ukraine.

Let the political games begin!
