As Citrix Endpoint Management ends support for our MDX wrapping technology (MDX Toolkit targeted for end of life in March 2022) and we migrate to a more SDK-driven approach, the MAM SDK will help fill the gap for our customers as they drive to platform MAM deployments. Platform MAM deployments include both Android Enterprise and iOS’s new User Enrollment. These MAM deployments provide customers with a rich experience that is natively built into the platform.

The latest versions of the MAM SDK now available are:

  • iOS
    • Objective C/Swift (21.9.0 – Coming soon)
    • Cordova (21.7.0 – Tech Preview)
    • Xamarin (21.7.0 – Tech Preview)
  • Android 7+
    • Java (21.7.0)
    • Cordova (21.7.0)
    • Xamarin (21.7.0)

Why the MAM SDK?

As customers begin to deploy devices with platform MAM, we want to ensure they get the same secure experience for applications that they’re used to with the MDX wrapping technology (legacy MDX). The MAM SDK allows independent software vendors (ISV) and in-house application developers to choose the platform SDK that best fits line-of-business (in-house) applications.

Get Started Migrating to the MAM SDK

First, ask yourself, “Am I currently deploying a line of business (in-house) app today incorporated with MDX wrapping technology (legacy MDX)?” If your answer is no, there’s no need to use the MAM SDK.

If you are using the MDX wrapping technology (legacy MDX) for your line-of-business (in-house) apps, then migration to the MAM SDK is required by March 2022. Your application developers can learn more from our MAM SDK documentation page, which provides all the tools they need to get started, including sample apps to help incorporate the MAM SDK.

If you are wrapping an app from a third-party provider or an ISV (getting the IPA or APK and wrapping it using MDX wrapping technology),  then you must check with the app provider/developer for the MAM SDK enabled app.

Once your app has been incorporated with the MAM SDK, you are ready to migrate.

Dual-Mode

Dual-mode allows customers to deploy Citrix productivity apps with either MDX wrapping technology or the MAM SDK framework. This flexibility promotes the freedom for customers to choose when to migrate their apps from MDX wrapping technology to the MAM SDK. Dual mode is available on Secure Mail and Secure Web app since version 20.8.0 for Android and for iOS starting 21.8.0 version.

To ensure the best migration to the MAM SDK and that your deployment is fully supported, you must meet the following pre-requisites:

Cloud customers:

  • Ensure Citrix Secure Mail and Secure Web are updated to the latest versions

On-Premises customers:

  • Ensure your on-premises version is updated to the following versions
    • 12 RP2
    • 13 or later
  • Ensure Citrix Secure Mail and Secure Web are updated to the latest versions

Are there any constraints with dual-mode?

  • Switching from MAM SDK back to Legacy MDX is not supported. The applications must be republished and redeployed to users to switch back to the MDX wrapping technology (Legacy MDX).
  • For Citrix mobile productivity apps such as Secure Mail and Secure Web, both applications must share the same configuration,  MDX wrapping technology (Legacy MDX), or MAM SDK. A separate configuration for each is not supported.
  • Only Secure Mail and Secure Web support Dual mode.

Other Considerations:

  • Legacy DA: If you are still using Legacy DA, you have to migrate to Android Enterprise. MAM SDK is not supported for Legacy DA.
  • Micro VPN Full Tunnel Mode: Full virtual private network (VPN) tunnel for iOS and Android devices has been deprecated. Use the MAM SDK Web SSO mode or create a per-app VPN policy with the Citrix SSO connection type.
  • Cannot Migrate to MAM SDK: If your partner that provides the app to wrap does not plan to migrate to MAM SDK or for some other reason it is not possible to migrate your in-house apps to MAM SDK, we recommend moving to Citrix SSO (iOS and Android). Alternatively, you can also configure a per-app VPN with the Citrix SSO app.
