Joseph Paul Manley: First, I would like to begin by saying thank you for having me. Many people know that I have made it my mission to drive continuous safety by evaluating security risks, creating crisis interventions plans, developing policies and providing training, education, consulting and management for clients and citizens with diverse security needs, so in July 2016, after a successful career in federal and municipal law enforcement, I launched Risk Mitigation Technologies, LLC.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings or your company unique?

JPM: We are a full-service security consultancy specializing in forensic security consulting for matters arising from personal injury/death, premises liability, negligent security and violent crime victimization. In addition to expert witness support, we are Certified Workplace Violence and Threat Specialists, Certified Crisis Intervention Specialists and security instructors with extensive training and experience in security and risk assessments of all venues, including critical infrastructure. We can help you create a safer and more productive environment by helping you reduce your operational risk and preventing safety and security incidents from occurring. In other words, we help businesses stay in business.

Our multidisciplinary approach looks at safety and security from every angle to mitigate risks – from the physical environment to the human element to the role of technology. We deliver expert consulting and litigation support that will help all groups in business and government sectors make more knowledgeable decisions and reduce their risks.

Aside from our consultations, litigation support and keynotes, we offer training programs to both private and public entities that will lower the risk of injury, reduce potential liability and improve relationships both in and out of the workplace. Our evidence-informe,; experience applied-programs combine academic research with significant “real life” experience. Our courses are designed to provide the knowledge and skills that you and your employees need to be able to recognize threats and inappropriate and concerning behavior, intervene in a nonconfrontational manner and respond appropriately to protect themselves and others.

We are experienced trainers with experience teaching in higher education. Our courses are highly interactive and engaging and use positive reinforcement, in a storytelling format. Our goal is to provide a memorable learning experience for you and your employees. We leverage real-life experiences, education and research to create an engaging training session.

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

JPM: We are, unfortunately, living in extremely dangerous times. According to the FBI, a burglary occurs every 25 seconds in the United States. I have been a police officer with more than 30 years’ experience; I have seen too much!

I have designed a residential home security checkup, which is customized for each individual homeowner – whether you are living in a new home or have been living in your present home for many years – and work to give you and your loved ones the peace of mind that comes from knowing that you have taken every reasonable measure to make your home, your sanctuary, your safe place, as safe as it can be. Conducting these checkups every several months can be a helpful way to evaluate your home security on a regular basis.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

JPM: I think in the short term, the security industry is expected to continue growing, as there is an increased demand for security solutions and services, especially in cybersecurity, surveillance and access control. Additionally, advances in technology such as artificial intelligence and biometrics are expected to drive innovation in the industry. In the long term, the industry is predicted to face challenges such as changing regulations, increasing competition and evolving threats; however, the rising importance of security in various industries and government sectors is expected to sustain the demand for security solutions and services.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

JPM: SIA membership puts Risk Mitigation Technologies, LLC, among the top organizations in the industry and marks my firm as a leader. No other organization provides more ways for security industry professionals to connect with the people and resources they need to be successful. We are brand-new members, and I hope to use the opportunities provided through our SIA membership to increase our market awareness and to access industry resources. Our involvement in SIA will allow us to gain valuable insight from other professionals in the security industry so that we can continue to address our clients’ changing needs and deliver reliable, high-quality security solutions.
