Three Reasons Why Camera Analytics Will Catapult Security Technology in 2023

Everywhere you look, artificial intelligence (AI) is popping up. Another post about ChatGPT here, another new AI-made painting there. It’s becoming very common in the current space to hear about AI.

In physical security and video surveillance it’s talked about but hasn’t become as mainstream… yet!

Here are three reasons why that will change in 2023:

1. Companies Are Looking to Become More Efficient in Their Security Operations

Talent shortages for security personnel, tighter budgets and increasing footprint of cameras mean there’s a lot more ground to cover but with fewer resources to do so. On-camera analytics allow for live feed monitoring and investigations to be handled with fewer people and fewer false alarms.

2. Companies Are Looking to Be More Secure

Cameras by themselves do not make a facility more secure, but being able to identify incidents and improve response times does. With analytics on camera to detect anything ranging from break-ins to motion and even suspicious persons and dangerous objects, organizations can create a safer, more secure environment. There’s also the opportunity to drive additional workplace safety by ensuring employees are compliant with protective equipment, and that heavy machinery is operating as desired.

3. Companies Want to Do MORE

Ninety-nine percent of video surveillance footage goes unwatched. Let that settle in. That’s a lot of wasted money on an asset that is so important to the organization. With edge analytics, cameras can become a revenue generator, while still maintaining their main job of protecting people. Edge analytics can do everything from helping marketing efforts in retail and finance to improving quality of products and processes in manufacturing and improving facilities operations in health care.

In the past, only large organizations could afford to deploy technology like this, but with improvements in the space by manufacturers and software developers, this technology is more available to the masses at a reasonable cost.

These are just a few reasons why camera analytics will be the talk of the town in 2023 and make a huge impact for companies well beyond.
