Yo-Yo Pandemic Response Predicted

Mask off, mask on. Testing off, testing back on.

While everyone is celebrating being free from masking and returning to life as we enjoyed it two years ago, the threat of a return to preventive measures remains when it comes to the coronavirus.

On March 19, 1,127 people died of the virus. With an overall death count of 970,000, it will only take a month to push us over the 1 million mark for COVID-19 deaths.

Austria is re-instituting masking requirements. China is fighting an outbreak of the disease using a zero-tolerance strategy. Meanwhile, here in the United States we are shutting down testing sites and continuing to open up for business as usual.

Dr. Fauci is telling us not to spike the football just yet while a new variant of omicron is spreading in different parts of the world.

So far, the good news is that the current vaccines available are still effective against all varieties for preventing hospitalizations and deaths.

The fourth booster of the vaccine seems to be just around the corner if the vaccine makers can convince the FDA that the booster is needed. As for myself, I’m all in on getting another booster shot if it can keep me healthy.

At my age, I’m not worried about dying, however, it is the threat of some version of “long COVID” that is most worrisome due to some of the deleterious affects of variations of long COVID.

Watch for another surge of cases in the coming months. Back in 2020 we did not expect a July surge, but then it did happen.
