A Book for Emergency Managers

Once you finish the professional development series from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), does that mean you are done learning? Perhaps your typical “learning” is experiential, in that you try different things to see if they work or don’t work. What if you actually read about a topic and then applied that knowledge to your experimentation about what works and what doesn’t work with your program or projects?

Here’s a text that every emergency manager should read. It has verified some of my own “experimentation” without reading experience: Nudge: The Final Edition.

I think you will find it “right on the money” for what we do on a variety of fronts from public education to mitigation to all four phases of emergency management (I’m leaving protection out — thank you!).
