George Sewell

George Sewell – government relations coordinator – supports the development and execution of SIA’s legislative and regulatory initiatives.

The Security Industry Association (SIA) has named George Sewell to serve as its new government relations coordinator. In this role, Sewell joins SIA Senior Director of Government Relations Jake Parker and Associate Director of Government Relations Colby Williams in helping the association address a growing number of public policy issues affecting the industry.

Since 2020, Sewell has worked in various areas of public policy and government affairs, including spending time in Congress as well as nonprofit organizations. He holds two degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park – a bachelor’s degree in government and politics and a master’s in international relations – and is natively fluent in Russian and proficient in Hebrew and Spanish.

In his new role, Sewell will bring his strong knowledge of policy and political processes to efforts that benefit SIA’s members and grow involvement in the association’s advocacy program. SIA’s government relations staff work diligently on efforts that matter to our members and to the safety of our citizens. SIA protects and advances its members’ interests by advocating pro-industry policies and legislation at the federal and state levels – including engaging on issues ranging from school security to federal appropriations, government contracting, workforce development, facial recognition policy, counter-drone legislation and more. The government relations team also offers members an array of informative publications and tools and analysis, events and webcasts on emerging policy issues affecting the security industry.
