23 From 2023: Some of Our Best Moments and Proudest Accomplishments

Dear SIA members,

As we head into the final stretch of 2023, we wish you all much peace and enjoyment with your families, friends and colleagues over the holidays!

We’re proud of the accomplishments that members and volunteers like you have produced this year with the support from of our dedicated staff, and we wanted to highlight “23 from 2023” – a look at some of the best accomplishments and proudest moments SIA achieved as a community of security industry leaders and dedicated professionals! 

23 From 2023: A Look Back at Some of SIA’s Best Moments and Proudest Accomplishments of 2023

  1. Successful sponsorship and support of the ISC West and ISC East events, which both saw substantial growth in attendance and presented an exceptional lineup of SIA’s special events and committee gatherings!
  2. Formation of the SIA Technical Security End User Forum – a new practitioner community within SIA built by some of our most dedicated end-user members 
  3. Our new relationship with Expo Seguridad Mexico as the show’s premier sponsor. Save the date for April 16-18, 2024, and join us in Mexico City! 
  4. Launch of SIA’s mobile app, mySIA – built to help keep you connected and alerted on all things SIA
  5. Creation of the Counter-UAS Working Group to lead the charge in voicing industry perspectives on legislative needs and other dynamic developments in this sector.
  6. Creation of the Security Leaders Forum on Capitol Hill in March 2023, which now becomes Security Hill Day this coming March! 
  7. Strong advocacy wins such as exemptions for right to repair in multiple states and the defeat of 13 proposals in states that would have limited the use of biometrics 
  8. Over 30 networking events around the country, including our SIAThere! events, our D.C.-based National Capital Region Security Forum events and events at ISC West and ISC East to help you create new industry connections!
  9. Over a dozen in-depth research, legislative and market reports, ranging from cannabis security requirements to vertical market reports (produced with Omdia) to legislative guides for facial recognition and biometrics laws – and a lot more!
  10. Launch of the Security LeadHER conference – a new event co-produced by SIA and ASIS International dedicated to the advancement of women in the global security industry!
  11. Formation of two new advisory boards to help lead the industry: the SIA Artificial Intelligence Advisory Board and the new Environmental, Social and Governance Advisory Board!
  12. SIA’s new Endowment Committee – which has already evaluated endowment-funded proposals that will generate new member benefits for you in 2024 
  13. Approximately 30 scholarships awarded and valued at over $130,000! $75,000 in SIA Women in Security Forum scholarships awarded (10 scholarships!) and $56,000 in SIA RISE scholarships awarded (18 scholarships!)
  14. Launch of the 25 on the RISE awards program – recognizing 25 incredible leaders among the talented young professionals of our industry
  15. Formation of National Security Technician Day (Jan. 23) through our partnership with the Foundation for Advancing Security Talent (FAST)
  16. Launch of a National Security Technician of the Year awards program – also through FAST – a program which recognized 10 technicians during ISC East 2023
  17. The release of our new 2024 Security Megatrends report just a week ago, which captures the industry’s biggest trends and coming changes 
  18. Live-streamed interviews with top economists as part of our new SIA Economic Outlook webinar series
  19. All-time high attendance for SIA Education@ISC – with 1,800+ attendees!
  20. SIA’s Utilities Security Lunch event at ISC West – a packed-room event where industry and practitioners connected and shared insights, showcasing the work of SIA’s Utilities Advisory Board
  21. SIA’s recognition as a member of the Congressional HBCU Partnership Challenge – demonstrating your association’s commitment to creating industry partnerships with HBCUs 
  22. The announcement and initial formation of a new community for veterans in security
  23. And finally, the 11th consecutive year of more than 100 companies joining SIA!

Yes, there were so many other valuable accomplishments and proud community moments not included in this short list, and for that we want to thank all the members, volunteers and participants who made 2023 exceptional in their own way! As we reach the end of this year, thank you for allowing us to serve you and your firm. We hope you enjoy your holidays, and may your 2024 be even brighter!
