Disaster Zone Podcast: ‘Emergency Assistance Foundation (EAF) Helping in Disasters’

An organization and mission you have never heard of before this.

There are new gadgets and gizmos that always interest me. It is extremely rare that I learn about a new organization with a mission and function I had never heard of or knew existed.

This, then, is the subject of this Disaster Zone podcast: “Emergency Assistance Foundation (EAF) Helping in Disasters.”

First of all, it is international. The majority of its workforce is totally remote and also located around the world. Their mission is helping private-sector companies make grants available to individuals impacted by disasters of one type or another. I was amazed by the depth and breadth of their mission focus and how they operate — with an extremely low overhead/administrative fee to boot.

More on the podcast is below:

“Doug Stockham co-founded Emergency Assistance Foundation (EAF) – a 501(c)(3) public non-profit – in 2011 to help companies take care of their team members in need. More than a decade later, EAF administers over 350 disaster and hardship relief funds in partnership with well-known sponsoring organizations on a global scale. In the last three years combined, EAF awarded over $205 million in financial assistance to more than 295,000 individuals and families in need around the world.

“In this podcast we learn how EAF has been agile and adaptable by harnessing technology, developing scalable platforms and procedures, and constantly evaluating and improving processes. Disasters that have been responded to include devastating hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria in 2017, the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and today’s ongoing conflict in Ukraine.”
Eric Holdeman is a contributing writer for Emergency Management magazine and is the former director of the King County, Wash., Office of Emergency Management.
