New Security Industry Association (SIA) member Texadia Systems is a full-service design/build AV and technology firm that specializes in the consultative design, installation and support of complex audio, video, lighting, security and low-voltage technology solutions. The company is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and works with clients across the United States.

SIA spoke with Dawna Payne, executive vice president at Texadia Systems, about the company’s history and offerings, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Dawna Payne: Texadia was founded by Steve Burke, who had been in the technology industry for 15+ years prior and really wanted to have his own business. The core competency was AV in the commercial and high-end luxury residential verticals. We acquired a small custom AV integrator that had a security license and recurring monthly revenue (RMR) in residential alarm monitoring and installation. It opened the door to really start working towards building that side of the business to not only residential, but also commercial.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

DP: We work in all areas of security on the residential side of our business. What makes us unique is we do everything from AV to security to structure cabling to electrical. We are the one-stop shop. On the commercial side, we have done access control, cameras and local security but have not been doing RMR. This is an area we are focusing on, as well as proactive monitoring. We see the value is opening up our offerings.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

DP: Building the commercial side of security, especially related to proactive monitoring and RMR.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

DP: Proactive monitoring and touchless or artificial intelligence access control.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

DP: Sadly, with the current climate in the world, security is more important than ever. I see security companies doing opposite of what we did, which is AV first, then security, but now security is getting into AV. We do the higher-level AV, which is going to be more important in the security side of the world.

What are the biggest challenges facing your company and/or others in the security industry?

DP: Cyber and having our teams truly learn and know cybersecurity. We are touching all the networks and need to be experts in this area.

What do you enjoy most about being at your company – and in the security industry?

DP: The fact that we offer many solutions that all integrate together or are needed to complete a solution in full – structured cabling to AV and security to making sure we have power with electrical, and topping it off with RMR for lifetime relationships with our clients.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you and your company? And what do you most hope to get out of membership?

DP: Learning and growing the commercial side of security, cyber training and best practices and working with other great security integrators. We would like to get involved in a committee or group to start getting more engaged and learn what we can share and help with as well.
