You can always pick up new information from what you read. Finally, I saw a notation that seismic uplift along the northwest coast is limiting the impacts of sea rise. This comes from the Cascadia Subduction Zone creating that uplift to the North American Plate. Of course, when there is the big one there will be an approximate three-foot drop along the coastline — call that “rapid sea rise!”

Seeing all that flooding in Miami and other Florida cities this past week is a reminder for how low they sit in proximity to the ocean and what sea rise will mean to them. Note that Hobe Mountain is the highest point in South Florida at 86 feet above sea level. I’d call it a hill myself.
