SIA New Member Profile: Cloudastructure

Cloudastructure logo

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member Cloudastructure offers an award-winning cloud-based artificial intelligence (AI) surveillance video management system. The company is headquartered in Miami, Florida, with its research and development office in Silicon Valley where it was founded, and its geographic footprint includes the United States, Latin America and South America.

SIA spoke with Kathleen Hannon, director of communications at Cloudastructure, about the company’s history and offerings and the security industry.

Tell us the story of your company.

Kathleen Hannon: Once upon a time, a laptop got stolen from the office of CEO Rick Bentley’s company. He went to the landlord to check the surveillance footage. The landlord discovered his state-of-the-art camera system had been unplugged by a cleaning lady in order to vacuum. Rick dubbed this the “vacuum effect” and decided surveillance would be his next venture. Hip-pocketing the company for many years, in 2020, Rick launched a RegA that would go on to raise a record $31 million, and Cloudastructure’s cloud-based AI surveillance system finally made it to market.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

KH: We offer four cloud-based solutions, including AI surveillance, remote guarding, smart parking and IoT cybersecurity. Our chief differentiators are that we are hardware agnostic, our systems are cloud-native with AI/machine learning (ML) analytics in the cloud for greater computational accuracy, we offer both physical security and cybersecurity products that can work in concert with one another and our value proposition is unique: we offer simple software as a service-based pricing with no contracts.

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

KH: Remote guarding will launch this fall and provide guard companies and central stations with a seamless way to transition enterprise customers from the multiple licenses currently necessary for surveillance, monitoring and reporting to just a single platform.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

KH: Security, at last, is changing from a on-premises-based business into a cloud-based one, and the return on investment from AI/ML surveillance will be vast – transforming security from a cost in preventative measures to a vibrant partner that can not only deter theft or violence, but improve operational efficiency as well. We were the first in the space, and we aim to be a leader in that transition.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you and your company? And what do you most hope to get out of membership?

KH: SIA membership offers us an opportunity to communicate with new partners within the industry, as well as a platform from which we can demonstrate the value of our solutions.
