USCG: Marine Transportation System Recovery Unit (MTSRU)

Understanding maritime disaster recovery process.

When there is a disaster that impacts the maritime sector there is a prescribed planning process for restoring the maritime highway for ports and other maritime areas.

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) manages that planning process and the execution of it via the Marine Transportation System Recovery Unit (MTSRU)

If you look at who should be involved in the MTSRU, you will see "emergency management" listed. If you have a maritime perspective, either on a coast, the Great Lakes or a navigable river, be sure you are plugged into the process.

Eric Holdeman is a contributing writer for Emergency Management magazine and is the former director of the King County, Wash., Office of Emergency Management.
