Here’s What Else You Need to Know This Month:

  1. Entries are now being accepted for the 2022 SIA New Products and Solutions (NPS) Awards! The NPS Awards, SIA’s flagship awards program at ISC West, recognizes innovative physical security products, services and solutions. Entries are due Feb. 4 – get started today!
  2. New course alert! Starting Feb. 22, join us virtually for the next SIAcademy LIVE! e-learning opportunity: a technical track exploring the essentials of video surveillance systems, as well as device hardening, video authentication and data protection. Learn more and register here.
  3. Calling all industry leaders! SIA is looking for seasoned security professionals to participate in the SIA Talent Inclusion Mentorship Education (TIME) program in 2022. As a TIME mentor, you’ll make a difference in a young professional’s life, build meaningful connections and foster the future of the industry. Applications are due Feb. 11; learn more and get started.
  4. In the first-ever SIA Tech Brief, SIA Public Safety Working Group Chair Steve Surfaro dives in to artificial intelligence (AI), convoluted neural networks and deep neural networks. The article discusses when artificial intelligence is helpful in public safety and when rules-based solutions can do the job at similar or higher levels of quality, cost or speed.
  5. The SIA standards team invites all SIA members to participate in its standards projects and efforts for 2022. Read SIA’s blog to learn what’s planned for this year and how you can get involved.
  6. To mark Data Privacy Week 2022, the SIA Data Privacy Advisory Board has published its first monthly update to the security industry. Each month’s update will provide readers with news and information about privacy developments, legislative and regulatory activity and advisory board projects and events. 
  7. In a presidential response to reinforce the nation’s defenses against public safety threats, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget has called for a new zero trust architecture strategy. Read SIA’s analysis of the new requirements and the impact on the security industry.
  8. Interested in taking your career to the next level? Join SIA for two virtual info sessions this month to discover our top-quality education and certification and training offerings. On Feb. 16, you’ll learn about SIA’s Certified Security Project Manager (CSPM) credential and Security Project Manager (SPM) training courses, and on Feb. 23 you’ll explore the new  Security Industry Cybersecurity Certification (SICC), the only credential focused specifically on cybersecurity and physical security convergence.
