  1. Registration is now open for the 2022 SIA GovSummit, coming May 24-25 in Washington, D.C.! This annual conference brings together government security leaders and industry technologists for top-quality information sharing, education and networking. Register by April 22 to save $100!
  2. SIA has opened the call for proposals for the 2022 AcceleRISE conference, hosted by SIA’s RISE community for young professionals and those new to the security industry. We’re looking for creative speakers and sessions for our event happening Aug. 1-3 in Austin, Texas. Got an idea you want to share? Submit your proposal here.
  3. Digital twins turn the physical world into computable objects that track assets, people and processes. But what exactly are they? In this SIA Tech Brief, Steve Surfaro and Kelly Watt discuss design and construction twins, operational twins and the benefits of digital twins in security.
  4. As the Virginia General Assembly wrapped up its 2022 regular session, it sent a bill to Gov. Glenn Youngkin that would replace the state’s complete ban on local law enforcement use of facial recognition technology with the most stringent law in the country regulating its use. In this analysis, SIA outlines Virginia’s new proposed facial recognition rules and what they mean for the industry.

  6. ISC West 2022, hosted in collaboration with premier sponsor SIA, came to a close late last month with record-breaking attendance growth. As the first major security and public safety event of the year, ISC West announced an 88% growth variance for total attendance ahead of last year’s event in July.   7. On March 22, SIA welcomed a new chair, presented five new and four returning members to the SIA Board of Directors and announced several new committee leaders at The Advance, SIA’s annual membership gathering during ISC West.   8. Congratulations to the 2022 winners of the SIA New Products and Solutions (NPS) Awards, the flagship awards program presented in partnership with ISC West recognizing innovative security products, services and solutions! Top among the winners, who were recognized March 23 during an award ceremony on the ISC West show floor, was Allegion – LCN, receiving the 2022 Best New Product Award.   9. SIA has opened the call for nominations for the 2022 Women in Biometrics Awards, a globally recognized program presented by SIA with support from sponsors AVISIAN, Biometric Update, IDEMIA, FindBiometrics and SIA’s Identity & Biometric Technology Advisory Board and Women in Security Forum. The recipients of this year’s awards will be honored at the 2022 SIA GovSummit. Nominations are due April 15; learn more and submit a nomination here.
  10. SIA’s Grants Training Course, a new self-paced, on-demand e-learning offering, is a tool that helps security integrators and manufacturers advise security teams protecting schools, transit systems, ports, airports, places of worship and government facilities about the availability and use of grant  funds.   11. On April 21, join SIA and the National Capital Region Security Forum (NCRSF) for this month’s NCRSF events!
