2022 Predictions: Power Grids at Risk?

Prediction 5: Electric grids and oil/gas pipelines will be attacked by hostile states
There will be increasing state and criminal cyber-attacks. Russia, in particular, will make even greater use of non-state criminal groups to harass those it regards as hostile. They will use sophisticated cyber-attacks that may cause major disruption. This will help them camouflage Russian state (GRU and SVR) involvement in response to the inevitable concerns expressed by the U.S. and its allies.
Chinese state cyber-activity will remain at a high-level, focused primarily on collecting intelligence to fulfil requirements from state and provincial government, as well as state enterprises.
Iran, North Korea, and Syria, in particular, will remain significant cyber threats to Western countries.
Electric grids and oil/gas pipelines form the soft underbelly of all critical national infrastructures, and we can only expect to see more attacks next year.
