Constant Technologies support ops

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member Constant Technologies specializes in mission-critical audio/visual (A/V) integration and custom control center furniture for command center environments in the public and private sectors. The company is headquartered in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, with its console operations based in Elkhart, Indiana.

SIA spoke with Heather Conover, director of business development at Constant Technologies, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Heather Conover: Constant Technologies initially specialized in the manufacture and installation of command center furniture. After spending some time within these mission-critical environments, full-service video wall integration was added to the company’s provided services so that clients could receive a turn-key space through a single provider. Since its inception, Constant has narrowed its focus to specialize in the mission-critical market, designing, installing and servicing 24/7 operations centers across the globe.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

HC: Constant Technologies, Inc. is an A/V integrator and custom furniture manufacturer specializing in mission-critical environments that operate 24/7. Within the industry, Constant Technologies is one of the only firms to provide both visualization tools and console furniture. Constant works with our clients and partners from concept through project completion: we offer design and budget consultations, project management, installation, service and support.

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

HC: The solutions we provide – 24/7-ready operations center video walls and furniture – can be applied applied in a variety of command and control centers, from security operatins centers and global security operations centers to cybersecurity operations centers. We are not limited geographically: our installations span across the globe, including multisite operations for single companies. Our reach is wide, but we keep our focus narrow: unlike other technology integration companies, we only operate within mission-critical spaces, so our expertise is unmatched.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

HC: In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of organizations find that in-person work is in somewhat of a limbo state. Even though many have returned to the office, others are continuing remote work or shifting toward a hybrid model. Despite this shift, however, there’s also been a renewed emphasis on the importance of security and having in-person staff for 24/7 risk management.

The ability for operators to collaborate on real-time information via a centralized video wall is still the most efficient and effective way to empower decision makers. Even if much of a company’s workforce is remote, having a centralized team in an operations center ensures the entire organization is protected. Whatever the future of other positions, the brick-and-mortar security operations centers will remain vital.

What are the biggest challenges facing your company and/or others in the security industry?

HC: One of the biggest challenges to the security industry right now is the still undetermined long-term ramifications of COVID-19. From supply chain interruptions to an increased demand for video monitoring, multiple facets of complication have emerged as a result of the last few years. Ultimately, this all calls for a more concerted effort for security across the board and more robust operations centers from which security professionals can monitor alerts and plan responses.

What do you enjoy most about being at your company – and in the security industry?

HC: The best part about our job is helping bring these critical spaces to life. We are part of the project from creating the concept all the way through completion, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the end product after months or sometimes years of planning. These rooms are such important nerve centers for their organizations. We enjoy getting the opportunity to see just how much a successful installation can help security leaders.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

HC: At Constant, we are looking forward to the opportunities to connect with others in the security industry. The opportunities for education, collaboration and networking are of major importance to us and we eagerly anticipate exploring the opportunities SIA membership provides.
