Gerald Becker: Quanergy, a publicly traded company (NYSE: QNGY and QNGY.WS), was founded in 2012 with the ambition to solve difficult problems in various markets with 3D technology. Quanergy serves many markets with a focus on smart cities, smart spaces, security, industrial IoT and mobile robots, automated guided vehicles and autonomous mobile robots.

Quanergy’s technology provides a whole new level of context and dimension never before seen with other IoT devices.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

GB: LiDAR is the best centimeter-accurate 3D device to acquire information. Cameras and radar compress the 3D world into a 2D presentation, but LiDAR opens a new dimension of context –  everything’s about context. In the security space we have developed two types of sensors: an optical phased array-based solid state LiDAR sensor and a mechanical 360 ° 3D sensor. Quanergy also develops its own computer perception software, QORTEX DTC, which allows for detection tracking and classification of objects.

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

GB: Quanergy has several video management software partners that we have deeply integrated our LiDAR sensors into. We also work with several major camera manufacturers to which we can pass location data for streamlined object tracking with cm accuracy. Our technologies reduce false alarms by 95%, provide 98% accuracy of object detection and provide zero PII risk. This includes applications in flow management and security.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

GB: There are several applications in which LiDAR can be applied to. One of the most practical use case applications for LiDAR is perimeter intrusion detection security (PIDS) for several types of markets. Critical infrastructure such as substations, power plants, data centers, sea ports, water treatment plants and airports are all prime markets for Quanergy. We see other similar applications being deployed in corrections, government and transportation. Another key market for Quanergy is flow management, specifically crowd management and people measurement. These types of applications provide insight to guest behavior for marketing purposes or crowd management for improved experiences.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

GB: Just a short time into the pandemic, businesses were deploying different solutions to track occupancy in their buildings and control social distancing. This trend is even stronger now because they see value from the data collected. Beyond safety objectives, organizations are using spatial analytics data to reduce wait times, optimize staff scheduling and enhance business operations. Long-term, we see the continued path of system unification providing several workflows with different types of IoT devices fused together to provide new outcomes. LiDAR will provide depth and perception in 3D, which will enhance current security practices globally.

What do you enjoy most about being at your company – and in the security industry?

GB: Quanergy is a great place to work. Great culture and so much opportunity for growth. The company is fast-paced, and everyone is a contributor to the mission. Quanergy has a solid vision and leadership at the helm of the company. Leadership is key when finding a great company to work for.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

GB: We look forward to connecting to other SIA members and industry professionals. SIA provides a great platform for us to introduce our technologies and educate the market on new use case applications.
