New Security Industry Association (SIA) member LiftMaster is a provider of professionally installed smart access solutions, including residential garage door systems and commercial door operators. The company is headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, with significant production operations in Mexico and a global presence in Canada, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

SIA spoke with Rebecca Peterson, group product manager at LiftMaster, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings or your company unique?

RP: LiftMaster is a leading manufacturer of access control systems, door and gate operators, smart video intercoms and related security products for residential and commercial applications. Through our powerful combination of reliable hardware and myQ cloud-based software, we provide millions of homeowners, multifamily communities and facilities with the ability to control, secure and monitor busy entry points from anywhere.

What makes LiftMaster unique is our commitment to innovation and focus on providing customized solutions for every customer. We develop products that are easy to use and provide secure access and work closely with our customers to understand their needs and ensure they are able to get the most out of our security solutions. Additionally, we offer a wide range of training and support services to security providers and integrators, including remote diagnostics which deliver seamless updates on repair needs and help build and maintain a connected customer base.

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

RP: LiftMaster is widely known as the No. 1 brand of professionally installed residential garage door openers, but you might not realize that LiftMaster also offers reliable, high-quality access control solutions for a wide array of applications including multifamily communities and commercial facilities. We strive to meet the needs of any property and are constantly expanding our smart access control ecosystem and unlocking new ways for customers to gain entry while enhancing security.

Designed to meet the unique needs of multifamily communities of all types, our line of smart video intercoms and smart readers work with the myQ Community cloud-based platform and app to provide secure access, empowering property managers and residents of any size property to open doors and manage guest access remotely while enhancing the security of the community with video features.

Residents using the myQ Community app have access to one-way video calling and two-way video voice communication to identify guests before granting access, recurring or one-time virtual guest passes, and a “press to unlock” feature that allows residents to easily unlock authorized entrances remotely with their smartphone.  Additionally, the myQ Community app works with Siri Voice Control, allowing residents to seamlessly access a front gate, garage or front door hands-free with a simple voice command.

With the introduction of our award-winning myQ Mobile Credentials in March, residents can now enjoy using their smartphones as an ultra-secure key for seamless entry to their property’s entry points.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

NP: LiftMaster’s vision is to provide life-enriching solutions to all our customers through reliable, secure access. Whether our customers are homeowners, property owners or business owners, our full line of access control products powered by myQ brings added convenience, security and peace of mind to any property We are working towards providing customers with a solution that acts as a full smart access control ecosystem from the perimeter of their property to the interior, allowing them to monitor, secure and control the entry points that matter to them.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

NP: I’m looking forward to seeing how the security industry continues to innovate to better solve everyday access control needs. I think we’ve just begun to see how it can empower people to engage with access in new and innovative ways, which is opening the door to so many amazing possibilities and opportunities. Take for example how our LiftMaster access control products work with myQ technology to transform the smartphone into an ultra-secure key for all the entry points that matter, eliminating the need for easily misplaced keys, fobs, or cards. People are using smart access control technology in ways they wouldn’t have imagined a few years ago, and the industry will continue to evolve to meet changing lifestyles and needs.

As we build out more smart access control solutions that help end users access, secure and monitor busy entry points while providing a new level of convenience and security, our integrators and providers will be able to expand and grow their businesses in ways they have never done before. And that is what I’m most looking forward to seeing.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

NP: SIA membership enables LiftMaster to engage with the security industry as a whole and to raise awareness around LiftMaster and our brand’s complete ecosystem of smart access control solutions. SIA makes it possible to access industry resources including events and education. LiftMaster believes there is great value to the industry expertise offered by SIA, and our team is excited to make the most of our membership in 2023.

How does your organization engage with SIA? What are your plans for involvement in the next year?

NP: We’re brand-new members and hope to use the opportunities provided through our SIA membership to grow our market awareness and to access industry resources. LiftMaster was thrilled to win the 2023 SIA New Products and Solutions Awards in the Best Mobile Solutions category for our myQ Community app and new myQ Mobile Credentials. Our involvement in SIA will allow us to gain valuable insight from our customers in the security industry so that we can continue to address their changing needs and deliver reliable, high-quality access control solutions.
