The browser is where significant work gets done. However, consumer browsers offer little protection or IT control to manage corporate web and SaaS apps beyond the initial authentication. Citrix offers solutions to enhance security, performance, and user experience for web apps, SaaS apps, and general web browsing.

Here is a short guide to our browser security technologies and use cases.

Native Browser

This is the local, default browser — think Chrome, Edge, Internet Explorer, or Safari — that runs on a PC or Mac. Citrix provides the Workspace Web Extension which enables launching virtual apps from a native browser plus service continuity for Citrix Workspace, which provides access to on-prem apps even if the cloud is unreachable. The Browser Redirection extension is used in the Virtual Desktop VDA and redirects media to run locally, improving Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops server scalability and user performance.

Citrix Enterprise Browser

A Chromium-based, secure enterprise browser, Citrix Enterprise Browser runs on the client machine and enables users to open web or SaaS apps from the Citrix Workspace app (2109 or higher for Windows and Mac) securely. Deployed with Secure Private Access, IT can provide secure ZTNA access without a VPN. It ensures a consistent user interface across web or SaaS apps, while helping to improve productivity and delivering a great performance in rendering those apps. When you open web or SaaS apps in Citrix Workspace app, the Citrix Enterprise Browser is invoked, and the apps open in a new window, providing single sign-on and enhanced security options such as control of copying and pasting; downloading and printing; and watermarking. You also get app protection, which blocks screen capturing, and protection against keystroke loggers. Users benefit from familiar Chrome features such as tabs, bookmarks, search, and more. Citrix Published Browser

Published and managed by IT, this browser typically runs on Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops in an organization’s datacenter. It allows IT to “publish” a specific URL to open in the virtual browser providing app compatibility for web apps with specific requirements like IE. This method also and adds a layer of security by isolating the data inside the datacenter.

Citrix Remote Browser Isolation (Formerly Secure Browser Service)

Citrix Remote Browser Isolation (RBI) is a hosted isolated browser that runs in Citrix Cloud or a segregated customer datacenter. It delivers consistent, secure remote access to internet-hosted web apps with no need for user-device configuration. IT admins can rapidly roll out secure browsers, providing instant time-to-value. By isolating internet browsing, IT admins can offer end users secure internet access without compromising security. Citrix Remote Browser Isolation is a feature of Citrix Secure Private Access, as well as a standalone offering.

Citrix Workspace Mobile App Viewer

This provides a WebView experience for iOS and Android and is embedded in the mobile Citrix Workspace app. Users get a browser view of web and SaaS apps launched from Citrix Workspace app, and it enforces Citrix Workspace-enhanced security policies like watermarking and restricted downloads. This is ideal for BYOD use cases without the need for MDM.
