  6. On Nov. 15, President Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law; the bill is the most significant U.S. investment in infrastructure in decades and includes $550 billion in funding far above baseline for many existing highway, transit, rail and other programs.   7.   8. On Nov. 18 at ISC East 2021, the SIA Women in Security Forum (WISF) hosted a special breakfast event on public speaking techniques for great presentations. During this event, offered as a special Thursday edition of WISF’s Wisdom Wednesdays series, attendees enjoyed complimentary breakfast and networking and heard tips and insights on how to present like a pro from panelists Elaine Palome, director of human resources at Axis Communications; Leigh Dow, vice president at Identiv; Chris Peterson, founder and president at Vector Firm; and Kristin Shockley, enterprise segment marketing manager at Genetec.   9. SIA has released the fall 2021 edition of SIA Technology Insights, a journal distilling the most current thinking for applying today’s security technologies. This edition features articles from experts on topics ranging from how artificial intelligence impacts physical security to SIA’s Open Supervised Device Protocol standard, cannabis security and cyber-physical security convergence.
  10. Following last month’s vehicular attack in Waukesha, Wisconsin, SIA Perimeter Security Subcommittee Chair Rob Reiter authored a new article that draws links and lessons from a decade’s worth of hostile vehicle attacks across the United States.   11. The SIA  Nominations Committee welcomes nominations of individuals to serve on the SIA Board of Directors, a strategic body that exercises oversight of the organization and implementation of the SIA Strategic Framework. The deadline for application is Dec. 31; learn more here.
  12. SIA  has named Edison Shen as its new director of standards and technology. Shen – who previously served as a program manager in the Building Infrastructure and Transportation Systems divisions at the National Electrical Manufacturer Association – manages and administers SIA’s standards and technical program activities; coordinates with other standards organizations that impact the SIA standards program of work; liaises with the SIA standards committee, subcommittees and working groups to set agendas and build consensus; develops cybersecurity and security technology content for SIA members; researches standards activities and complementary programming; and manages the SIA Standards team.
