US Agencies Sound the Alert on Critical Infrastructure Resilience

November 9, 2023 Leave a comment DRI Admin

With critical national infrastructure (CNI) under constant and evolving cyber threats, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is heading up a new initiative to harden systems ahead of a disruption.

November is Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month, and CISA has launched its new “Shields Ready” campaign, developed with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The initiative encourages infrastructure stakeholders to enhance security and improve processes to ensure  in four key ways:

  • Understand infrastructure and dependencies – Identify critical systems and assets that may be dependent on other infrastructure systems
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for threats that could disrupt operations
  • Make actionable plans that include risk management and incident response/recovery to reduce downtime, and
  • Measure progress via testing and evaluation.

Any incapacitation or destruction to CNI sectors could have a massive impact on national security, economy, and/or public health and safety. The national framework involves 16 major sectors:

  • Chemical
  • Commercial facilities
  • Communications
  • Critical manufacturing
  • Dams
  • Defense
  • Emergency services
  • Energy
  • Financial services
  • Food and agriculture
  • Government facilities
  • Healthcare
  • Information technology
  • Nuclear reactors
  • Transportation
  • Water/wastewater

A cyber resilience practice can enhance overall resilience and mitigate losses caused by such attacks. That’s why DRI’s Cyber Resilience (CRLE) course is an absolute must. Cyber Resilience is an information-packed, four-day experience that will provide a holistic perspective and understanding of how the entire organization should prepare for, respond to, and recover from cyberattacks.
