Three Access Control Sessions at ISC West That You Can’t Miss

Access control

ISC West 2021 is coming up July 19-21 in Las Vegas, and the Security Industry Association (SIA) and ISC West recently revealed full conference details for the SIA Education@ISC West program, including keynote presentations from top luminaries and 65+ sessions on the most current business trends, technologies and industry developments.

Among the robust lineup of conference sessions are several dynamic presentations related to access control. Today’s access control market faces unique challenges, and as technology evolves, so does the future of access control. At ISC West, you’ll discover expert insights on the most cutting-edge technologies in physical access control and how to mitigate unauthorized entry.

“Like many parts of the security industry, access control is in the midst of a significant accelerated transformation,” said Lee Odess, CEO of Group337 and a speaker at ISC West. “For 30 years, access control has had limited innovation and change. The value proposition of yesterday has always been one of safety and keeping bad people out. Although that is still a pillar of the value access control delivers, it is no longer the only one. As an industry, we need to spend time looking forward to the needs of today and tomorrow use cases. We do just that by bringing some of the blue flame thinkers of our industry to help define the next generation of access control.”

Here are three premier sessions on access control you won’t want to miss; make sure to add them to your ISC West calendar!

How New Cardless Physical Access Control Technology Can Cut Access Control Costs by Two-Thirds

Tuesday, July 20
11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Physical access control is crucial for building security, yet most buildings utilize older proximity card technology that is not only expensive to operate and maintain but also easy for bad actors to clone. Other companies have opted for proprietary encrypted credentials, which are too costly for most. New cardless options that are primarily software based are helping landlords and tenants improve their security profile while reducing costs by one-half to two-thirds. These new systems rely on smartphone-based identity signals that are owned by the user, who can then give permission for employers and others to read their signal for physical access. Cloudflare recently implemented such a system across nine of its own offices, and this session will provide an inside view.

Using Technology, People and Process to Close the Biggest Gap in Physical Security: Unauthorized Entry

Tuesday, July 20
1:15-2:00 p.m.

When an unauthorized person enters a facility, an organization’s risk and liability skyrocket. Can a sophisticated biometric device ensure that doesn’t happen? This session is about removing the assumptions that get in the way of securing a facility reliably. Expert panelists will discuss what it takes to truly control who is in the building by exploring how to plan people, process and technology at the entry. The key is to understand the vulnerabilities of the technology and plan from there. Attendees will also hear about the impacts COVID-19 has had on physical security planning around the entry at facilities.

Speakers:

  • Nick Miller, regional vice president, strategic accounts, Guidepost Solutions, LLC
  • Jay Oros, senior manager, corporate services, Southwest Airlines
  • JC Powell, vice president of sales, Boon Edam Inc.
