Disaster Zone Podcast: ‘The Future of EMI, Training or Education?’

Emergency management’s premier government educational institution.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Emergency Management Institute (EMI) has been in a leadership role when it comes to educating and training the emergency management workforce.

I think you will find this Disaster Zone podcast, “The Future of EMI, Training or Education?,” very educational in itself to understanding how EMI was founded and is constantly evolving to meet the challenges of today. Who better to interview on the topic than Dr. Jeff Stern, the superintendent of EMI.

In my interview with Jeff I mention this book, Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World, and so I’m providing a link here.

And, here’s the description of the podcast:

“Dr. Jeff Stern is the Superintendent of the Emergency Management Institute (EMI), located at Emmitsburg Maryland. EMI is the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) center for the development and delivery of emergency management instructional curriculum that is delivered both in-person and remotely via technology. In this podcast we discuss the history of EMI and how it and the curriculum is constantly changing, just as our national threats have evolved over the years. Dr. Stern discusses the development of emergency management as a profession and how the training and education of the current and future workforce are his top priorities.”
Disaster Zone by Eric Holdeman is dedicated to sharing information about the world of emergency management and homeland security.
