Disaster Zone Podcast: CISA — What Is It? What Does It Do?

What does a CISA Region do as opposed to FEMA Regions?

There are now two federal regional organizations that are key partners to states and local jurisdictional emergency managers and their partner agencies and organizations — to include the public and nonprofit sectors.

One, of course, is the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the other, the newest federal agency with regional offices, is the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) — which has the same geographical footprint as the FEMA regions, but different missions.

To learn more about these CISA regions, listen to this Disaster Zone podcast: “CISA What is it? What does it Do?”

The interview is with CISA Region 10 Director Pat Massey, a long-time FEMA regional staffer, so he knows the different roles and responsibilities of both organizations.

They are as vital to emergency management functions as FEMA, but in other ways.
Eric Holdeman is a contributing writer for Emergency Management magazine and is the former director of the King County, Wash., Office of Emergency Management.
