Pete O’Dell, CEO, Swan Island Networks

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member Swan Island Networks is a software-as-a-service company that delivers trusted situational awareness and threat intelligence services. The company is headquartered in Portland, Oregon.

SIA spoke with Swan Island Networks CEO Pete O’Dell about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Pete O’Dell: We founded Swan Island Networks in 2002 after the terrorist attacks on 9/11. We worked to support last mile intelligence, situational awareness, information sharing and other critical federal, state and local needs. We transitioned back to the private sector in 2008 and have two cloud-based situational awareness platforms.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

PO
: We provide near real-time situational awareness and alerting, giving organizations visibility and reaction time to emerging threats around the world. We focus on all hazards events that are correlated to customer locations and communicate the information through visual dashboards and text/phone alerts. Our TX360 Enterprise solution is used by very large organizations across industries as a critical security platform.

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

PO: TX Global is a rising star as our second cloud platform. It is affordable (starting at $99/month) and offers global monitoring/awareness across a wide range of areas. It can be white labeled and adapted for other markets and is easy to use and deploy. We’re also accumulating a large repository of global alerts for use with artificial intelligence capabilities.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

PO: We want to see a well-integrated comprehensive security capability available to all size companies that works today and can incorporate all the emerging technologies that are growing in importance; drones, robots, intelligent video, sensors and more. We want to interoperate with other products and partners around the world.

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

PO: Building the future into the present seamlessly. Customers want help making their professionals and technology work together predictably. An integrated approach to protecting people, property, operational continuity and business reputation is key.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

PO: SIA membership allows us the ability to work with other industry partners in a professional, well-managed and neutral arena.

How does your organization engage with SIA? What are your plans for involvement in the next year?

PO: We’ve attended one of the networking events (excellent), I have submitted a blog post and we will attend ISC West and other conferences. I’ve recommended our younger analysts look at the RISE program.
