SIA New Member Profile: Visidon

Visidon co-founders

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member Visidon creates imaging software solutions empowered by artificial intelligence (AI) that are built for high efficiency, low power consumption and high accuracy. The company is headquartered in Oulu, Finland, with clients and technology partners spread across the world and several sales offices in Asia, and is building its presence in the United States as well.

SIA spoke with Jenna Enbuska, head of marketing at Visidon, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Jenna Enbuska: Visidon was established in Finland in 2006 and is a high-tech company specializing in the advancement of AI-driven image and video processing software tailored for embedded cameras. Our founders hail from the realms of computer vision research at the University of Oulu, where they also earned their doctorates in the field.

In our formative years, we concentrated on delivering development services for image processing algorithms while concurrently laying the groundwork for our proprietary technology surrounding image processing and facial analysis. As the decade turned, we began licensing image processing software for mobile device cameras.

Over time, we solidified our position as a premier provider of camera algorithms within the mobile market, honing our expertise in video quality enhancement across various domains, including surveillance, home security and consumer electronics. Leveraging our extensive experience and collaboration with embedded camera vendors and mobile original equipment manufacturers, we have tailored numerous algorithms specifically for embedded imaging.

Our flagship offering for the surveillance camera market is a CNN-based video noise reduction optimized for real-time low-light enhancement. The technology addresses a critical need in the industry, recognizing the detrimental impact of noise, particularly in low-light scenarios, on surveillance and security cameras.

Our success is underpinned by a profound understanding of the challenges inherent in resource-constrained environments. Drawing from our background in mobile device algorithm development, we have mastered the art of optimizing video and image quality AI networks for efficiency, particularly in terms of computing power, memory utilization and energy consumption.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings or your company unique?

JE: Our flagship offering for the surveillance camera market is a CNN-based video noise reduction optimized for real-time low-light enhancement. The technology addresses a critical need in the industry, recognizing the detrimental impact of noise, particularly in low-light scenarios, on surveillance and security cameras.

Noise reduction enhances the quality of captured footage, improving the accuracy of video analytics and enabling better decision making in various applications. In some examples, the object detection accuracy improvement has been up to 50% compared to the ISP denoised footage. Through optimization of the network, Visidon efficiently utilizes the limited power assigned for low-light improvement, resulting in significantly superior outcomes compared to traditional ISP technologies, even in ultra-low-light conditions, such as below 0.1 lux. Notably, Visidon’s low-light enhancement performs well even when objects are in motion.

What’s something we might not know about your company – or something new you’re doing in security?

JE: What you might not know is that it is our passion to improve the performance and the camera capabilities with our software so that our customers could actually get more out of their embedded cameras. For example, for surveillance, it is our goal to provide higher accuracy for automatic object detection, hence identification of smaller and more distant objects with higher accuracy and fewer false alarms.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

JE: We are mainly looking forward to networking: finding technology and business partners but also gaining deeper insight about the industry. We are also looking forward to exhibiting at ISC West and competing at the SIA New Products and Solutions Awards!
