SIA New Member Profile: Metrasens

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member Metrasens offers advanced magnetic detection technologies. The company is headquartered in the United Kingdom, providing production and research and development as well as servicing the Europe, Middle East and Africa and Asia-Pacific geographic markets with distribution, sales and service. The United States operational hub is in Illinois outside of Chicago, providing regional distribution, sales and service for North America. 

SIA spoke with Dan Kuzniewski, vice president of global marketing at Metrasens, about the company’s history and offerings, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Dan Kuzniewski: Metrasens is deeply rooted in the field of magnetic detection, having been founded by magnetics experts with applied expertise in the areas of defense technology. Their early work was with QinetiQ, a multinational defense contractor with headquarters and research and development centers in the United Kingdom. Originally focusing their work on mine detection, a fatal event involving an oxygen cylinder and a magnetic resonance imaging machine changed their focus. That event in 2002 led the company’s founders to depart QinetiQ and start Metrasens, applying their expertise in magnetic detection to providing protection for human life and critical assets in commercial applications.

What solutions/services does your business offer in the security industry? And what makes your offerings/company unique?

DK: Metrasens designs and develops threat detection systems that address the deficiencies in conventional metal detection tools and methods – detection systems that not only protect at entrances but that demonstrate utility beyond the traditional checkpoint. Metrasens solutions are characterized as highly sensitive and precise, smart, flexible and efficient. Leveraging those characteristics, Metrasens is intentional in delivering solutions fit for purpose and that improve both operational efficiency and quality of a customer’s safety culture. This is accomplished by taking a holistic approach to identifying safety and security gaps and then developing customized implementation and training plans that include the utilization of innovative threat detection technology and well tested and constructed operating procedures.

The latest product, Metrasens Ultra with Xact ID, is an advanced, intelligent detection system that combines advanced proprietary software and enhanced sensor design to result in high levels of detection with low extraneous alarms. 

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

DK: Metrasens has won several awards, including a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the category of Innovation – the highest business award in the United Kingdom. 

In addition to excellence in altering the screening paradigm in its core markets – corrections and health care – Metrasens has been chosen by three of the top 10 Fortune 500 companies to provide both threat detection and data protection solutions, as it emerges into new market segments within the corporate and government industries.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

DK: Metrasens’ vision is to deliver an experience for our stakeholders that exceeds expectations across every engagement, while underpinning the endeavor to make the world a safer place. One of the company themes is “A Safer World Awaits,” and it serves as a motivator to keep innovating and pushing the boundaries of technology, because in doing so the reward is greater safety for all.   

What does SIA offer that is most important to you and your company? And what do you most hope to get out of membership?

DK: Metrasens joined SIA because of the belief in its mission to drive success through information, insight and influence. SIA offers the Metrasens team the opportunity for networking and engaging with members to solve for safety and security pain points, to learn from the expansive expertise across the membership and to work collaboratively to be part of the solution for a safer tomorrow.
