SIA New Member Profile: Concentric Security

New Security Industry Association (SIA) member Concentric Security is a leading premier perimeter security solutions integrator. The company has its main offices in Sykesville, Maryland, and Montgomery, Alabama, with offices throughout the United States serving its customers nationwide.

SIA spoke with Concentric Security Vice President of Sales Emily Sullivan, PSP, about the company, the security industry and working with SIA.

Tell us the story of your company.

Emily Sullivan: In 1996, Intellimar was started as a security strategy company. Working with companies within the security space to identify new opportunities and markets, Intellimar saw a need to develop solution centric security plans utilizing products and services that created a solution to fit customers’ unique needs. By utilizing the top manufacturers and solutions providers, Intellimar was able to develop perimeter security solutions as unique as the customers we serve.

After the events of Sept. 11, 2001, Concentric Security was born to expand on the need to keep people and property safe. Over the last 25 years, we continue to focus on the changing needs of our customers and finding innovative ways to solve unique problems.

Before

What is something we might not know about your company – or something new you are doing in security?

ES: Vehicle barriers are aging and in need of renovation and modernization, replacement is not always needed. Concentric Security has worked with our customers to upgrade these systems to increase safety and ease of use, while saving up to 70% compared to replacement. We do this by taking an existing vehicle barrier and perform various repairs, parts replacement, reassembly and upgrades while maintaining or enhancing the original identity and functionality and meeting or exceeding the original performance specifications.

Barrier controls work is a part of the renovation as well as new systems. Our team works on upgrading and improving controls through state-of-the-art systems and built-in safety functions. The controls our team develops with the customers are nonproprietary and based on the individual solution. This is done by considering the various components that make up the security solution, allowing for ease of use, easier maintenance and upgrades and additions to the systems.

What is your company’s vision, and what are your goals for the security industry?

ES: The foundation of our corporate culture is TRUST and ACCOUNTABILITY and focus on the goals important to us – “Doing Things That Matter for People Who CARE.”

What do you think are the biggest opportunities in the security industry right now?

ES: As a solutions provider, Concentric Security focuses on providing customized solutions for unique customer problems. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. We do this through our proven process of assessment, engineering and construction.

What do you enjoy most about being at your company – and in the security industry?

ES: Concentric Security strives to serve our customers and each other with exceptional customer service. We are all in this together – keeping people and property safe.

What does SIA offer that is most important to you/your company? And what do you most hope to get out of your membership with SIA?

ES: Concentric Security and our employees are committed to participating in the growth and success of the industry we serve. Membership in SIA, the leading security association, will allow us to continue to grow through events, committees, networking and programs while also giving back to our industry. We look forward to working alongside other industry thought leaders and community leaders in shaping the future of the security industry.

What are your predictions for the security industry in the short and long term?

ES: As technology evolves, the security industry will have to adapt. Education and training, especially for our young professionals, will be crucial in ensuring the success of not only Concentric Security but also the security industry as a whole. Historically security has been reactionary or an afterthought. As breaches and incidents continue to surface, we will become more proactive.

What are the biggest challenges facing your company and/or others in the security industry?

ES: Two main challenges:

  • The collaboration between physical security and cybersecurity and the necessity behind cooperation
  • Buy-in and participation from the C-suite

How does your organization engage with SIA? What are your plans for involvement in the next year?

ES: We engage through events such as ISC West and ISC East. We plan on engaging more through educational resources, committees and speaking opportunities.
